As I had mentioned recently, I am re-thinking my 2025 Joomla extension strategy. This begins with discontinuing extensions that don't make sense in Joomla 4 and 5. Many of my extensions are redundant (functionality has been included in the Joomla core), so I won't be updating them going forward. They will remain downloadable from my site, but won't receive any updates or support. Use at your own risk.
The rest will be re-structured into single versions. As of 2025: there will be no more Free/Pro versions - everything is free (as it was when I started). I'm going back to the blessings model. If you feel that I have blessed you, then you can bless me. I don't want your money, but I would appreciate a do-follow (regular) link back to https://www.richeyweb.com. That's all the blessing I ask for.
"But how will you make money" are the words I'd like to put into your mouth. Well, to answer the question I've forced upon you - I'm going to return to my roots. Once upon a time, I developed custom software and used my free extensions as a business card. It worked great! I got a lot of new customers and wrote a lot of code.
That strategy built a lot of business. Then someone suggested that I sell "Pro" versions of my extensions and things spiraled out of control. I was so busy supporting 2 versions of everything that I was turning down paid gigs.
What does that mean for all of the Pro versions? Nothing - most are getting discontinued because Joomla adopted the functionality into the core. They will still be available (and free) in their current condition for Joomla 3.x users. Everything else is being updated for Joomla 5.
My 2025 plan is to stagger updates with new extension releases. What can you look forward to seeing? There are some utility extensions, some content plugins, but the bulk of what I've been doing is SEO automation - you're going to love it!
