AI Automation Unlocking Content Opportunities

Staying ahead of the content game is tough. Whether you’re a blogger, marketer, or niche website owner, sifting through news, trends, or industry updates to find relevant topics can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Manual research eats up hours, and by the time you spot a hot topic, it’s often too late to capitalize. Enter AI automation—a smarter way to discover content opportunities that drive traffic, engagement, and revenue.

Outpacing the competition is an endless loop.  Not only must you pursue your own content opportunities, but you must monitor trends and your competition for things you missed. It might be a foreign concept to use AI to streamline this process, and in this article, I’ll show you how RicheyWeb does this using my Carry Texas website as a real-world example, I’ll walk you through a high level automated workflow to identify content ideas, saving you time and boosting your bottom line.

Why AI Automation for Content Discovery?

Content creation thrives on relevance and timing. Miss a trending topic, and you lose clicks, shares, or leads. Monitor too many sources manually, and you’re burned out before you write a word. AI automation solves this by processing vast amounts of data—RSS feeds, social media, or web searches—to uncover what your audience cares about in real time.

You know your industry better than anyone; the key players, the primary keywords, the relevant blogs, the legislation - your radar covers a lot of ground. At Carry Texas, staying relevant means watching other gun blogs and instructors, YouTube channels, the Texas Legislature, gun manufacturers - and more!

For businesses in general, staying relevant translates to:

  • More Traffic: Timely posts on trending topics attract organic search and social engagement.
  • Higher Engagement: Content tailored to audience interests (e.g., new laws for gun enthusiasts) sparks shares and comments.
  • Revenue Growth: Increased traffic fuels ad revenue, affiliate clicks, or client inquiries.

Just reading the news, watching videos, monitoring the legislature, and searching for trends is a full time job.  It's easy to get burned out whether you’re tracking industry news or niche data like legislation, AI automation can transform your content strategy. Let’s look at two of the tools I built to make AI do the mundane work.

AI Automation Powers Content Opportunity Identification

There are many ways to connect data sources with AI to automate repetitive tasks. I'll detail two tools I created to bring AI into my content opportunity workflow.  Both of these tools monitor RSS feeds and pass the content through several processes to keep me up-to-date without requiring a full-time job worth of daily effort.

For Carry Texas, a site focused on firearms and self-defense, I monitor two types of RSS feeds with distinct workflows:

  1. RSS Feed: This catches new items from traditional RSS feeds, like news articles or blogs, which update sporadically. For example, when a site posts about a new gun law, my tool grabs it within a few minutes of it being published.

  2. RSS Read: This pulls the entire feed daily, ideal for feeds that reset, like the Texas Legislature’s bill list, which clears every midnight and accumulates new bills throughout the day.

Both workflows follow a similar process:

  • Retrieve Content: Pull the RSS feed item (a webpage) and convert it to a simplified format (markdown) for easy processing.
  • AI Classification: Send the content to a large language model (LLM) to classify it as “responsive” (matches my topics, like firearms or self-defense) or “non-responsive.”
  • Act on Insights: For responsive items, the tool sends an email alert. From there, I might write a blog post, create an X thread, or dig deeper with web searches.

From AI to Inbox

This automation keeps Carry Texas ahead of legislative changes and news, ensuring timely, relevant content that resonates with my audience. It's an upfront effort which works on my behalf until it requires update or until I turn it off.  I don't have to read every single bill the legislature produces, only the ones that match the criteria I set.

Why It Works

Manually checking feeds or legislative updates would take hours. AI automation cuts that to minutes reading only relevant results, letting me focus on the rest of my business. This approach isn’t just for firearms sites—it works for any niche:

  • E-commerce: Track product trends or competitor launches.
  • Legal Firms: Monitor case law or regulatory updates.
  • Marketers: Spot campaign ideas from social media or industry news.

With AI automation, you can have a custom system to find content opportunities tailored to your audience, and I help my clients do exactly that.

Lets Build Your Content Discovery Workflow

Want to automate your content strategy? Here’s a high-level look at how I design custom AI-powered workflows at RicheyWeb, inspired by my Carry Texas setup. No coding required—just a clear goal and the right tools. Let me handle the heavy lifting for you.

1: Define Your Goals

Identify what content you need. For Carry Texas, I focus on blog posts and X updates about firearms and self-defense laws. You might want:

  • Blog ideas for a tech site (e.g., AI trends).
  • Social media posts for a fitness brand (e.g., workout challenges).
  • Newsletter topics for a finance blog (e.g., market shifts).

I’ll work with you to pinpoint your goals and tailor a workflow to match.

2: Set Up the Automation

I build in a private platform to connect your data sources (e.g., RSS feeds, X, or web searches). For your workflow:

  • Incremental Feeds: A custom tool monitors traditional RSS feeds, grabbing new items as they’re published.
  • Daily Resets: Another tool pulls the full feed on a schedule (e.g., after a daily reset), perfect for dynamic sources like legislation.
  • X Posts: Maybe you want to know when an X user or topic gets posted.

3: Process the Data

  • Simplify Content: I convert raw data (e.g., web pages) into a clean format for AI processing.
  • AI Classification: Using an LLM, I filter content based on your criteria (e.g., keywords like “blockchain” for a crypto site or “regulation” for a legal firm). Only relevant items move forward.

4: Act on Insights

  • Notify: Get email alerts with responsive items, including summaries or links, so you can act quickly.
  • Expand (Optional):
    • Pull related X posts to gauge audience sentiment.
    • Trigger web searches for deeper research.
    • Auto-draft content like blog summaries or social posts.
  • Track Trends: Store insights in a database (e.g., Google Sheets) to spot long-term opportunities.

5: Monitor and Refine

I’ll ensure your workflow runs smoothly, with error handling for messy data and tweaks to improve AI accuracy.
