As the author of System - X Autopost, I want to keep you fully informed about recent changes at X (formerly Twitter) that affect how the plugin works.
X has now moved its Developer API to a pay-per-use credit-based model. The old free tier is no longer available for most users. This means that automatically posting articles from Joomla to X now incurs a small cost charged directly by X, not by my plugin or RicheyWeb.
Important Clarification
I make no money whatsoever from any X API credit purchases. There is no affiliate program, commission, or partnership involved. This blog post is simply to help my users understand the change and continue using the software they’ve relied on — which remains completely free.
How Much Does It Actually Cost?
The action performed by System - X Autopost is a Content: Create request.
- X currently charges $0.01 (one penny) per post created.
- That means $1.00 in X API credits gives you 100 posts.
- Even if you publish one article per day, that’s roughly $0.30 per month — or about three months of daily posts for just $1.00.
For the vast majority of Joomla sites using this plugin, the ongoing cost should remain very low and predictable. X API pricing can be found here.
What You Need to Do
- Log in (or create an account) at the X Developer Console.
- Create or update your Developer App and generate new API credentials (Key, Secret, Access Token, and Access Token Secret).
- Purchase a small amount of credits directly from X (you can start small — some legacy free-tier users received a one-time $10 voucher).
- Update the credentials in your System - X Autopost plugin settings.
- I recommend setting a modest spending limit in the console while you monitor your actual usage for the first month.
A small plugin update will be released soon with improved instructions and clearer messaging inside the settings panel.
Final Note
System - X Autopost will continue to be free, as all my extensions have been. The only new requirement is the small per-post fee that X now charges for automation.
If you have very low posting volume, you may prefer to continue posting manually for now. For those who want to keep the convenience of automatic posting on article save, the new model keeps it affordable for typical use.
